Château de Chambonas
The Château de Chambonas, in the Ardèche, is not open to visitors. From its medieval origins it keeps five imposing towers with glazed-tile roofs. Set on a rocky base not far from the Chassezac, it was modernised in successive campaigns in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Under Louis XIV, the addition of a gateway and the creation of a French formal garden opening onto the banks of the Chassezac turned the austere medieval residence into a country house.
