Château d'Aubenas

Ardèche, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Château d'Aubenas, also called the Château de Montlaur, is a landmark of civil architecture in the Ardèche. In the heart of the town of Aubenas, it is listed as a historic monument. Its construction began in the 12th century with the keep, then it was gradually transformed by its successive owners: the Montlaur, Maubec, Modène, Ourans and Vogüé families.

This 'building of metamorphoses' bears the mark of the six seigneurial families who lived there from the 13th century to the Revolution. Each adapted it to its own taste, making it a veritable digest of art history. It now houses municipal services and exhibition rooms.
