Château de Boulogne

Ardèche, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Château de Boulogne stands in the commune of Saint-Michel-de-Boulogne, in the Ardèche Vivarais. This medieval fortress occupies a strategic position that controlled the roads to Le Puy and the Col de l'Escrinet. A listed historic monument, it is described as one of the most important Gothic fortresses of the Vivarais. Sold as national property in 1793, it is now a well-preserved group of ruins.

Run by an association, the site can be visited by appointment by groups of ten to twenty people, and opens during the European Heritage Days, on the third weekend of September.

It also provides a setting for cultural events: concerts, theatre, circus shows and a midsummer festival, as well as private receptions.
