Château de Brancion

Saône-et-Loire, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

Erected by the lords of Brancion between the eleventh and thirteenth centuries and magnified by the dukes of Burgundy in the fourteenth century, the castle proudly overlooks the Grosne valley. As you go from terrace to terrace you will discover:

* the Beaufort lodging (twelfth century) with its defensive towers * the Beaujeu lodging (late thirteenth – early fourteenth century) whose magnificent trefoil bays and monumental fireplaces testify to past grandeur * the Préau tower and the Gaîte tower that houses the latrines * the keep (twelfth century) and its exceptional panorama over the Grosne valley and as far as Mont-Saint-Vincent (about thirty kilometres away). An orientation table lets you "read" the landscape.

The castle has been listed as a historic monument since 1977.
