Château de Bournazel
The Château de Bournazel, in the Aveyron, is a private Renaissance château listed as a historic monument, a major building of southern France for its innovative architecture and remarkable sculpted decoration. Visits cover the exterior, the north wing and the ground floor of the east wing.
Visitors discover a Renaissance staircase with stone vaults and furnished rooms with paintings, tapestries and works of art, each with a monumental fireplace.
The walled garden has nine parterres on the themes of a fortunate prince's education and the riddle of life, with fountains, vases, a polyandrion, garden rooms enclosed by hornbeam hedges, an orchard, a hortus conclusus, a maze, arbours, terraces and an ornamental pool, whose symbolic, literary and intellectual layout recalls the ambitions of the Renaissance.
