Château de Berzé
The fortress of Berzé-le-Châtel, in southern Burgundy, is a vast medieval ensemble built from the thirteenth to the fifteenth century around a Carolingian chapel. It has three successive enclosures and many towers, including two keeps.
The castle overlooks the Solutré valley, and its terraces offer fine views of the landscape. Inside the ramparts, you discover furnished medieval rooms, as well as varied gardens: orchards, kitchen gardens and a formal garden.
The fortress is open in season, for self-guided or guided visits, and takes part in the European Heritage Days. It is in the Mâconnais, in Saône-et-Loire.
