Château d'Oiron
Built in the 16th century by the Gouffier family and transformed in the 17th, the Château d'Oiron, in the Deux-Sèvres, now houses the contemporary art collection 'Curios et mirabilia', integrated into the historic décor of its rooms.
The works of some sixty internationally renowned artists (Christian Boltanski, Daniel Spoerri, Sol LeWitt…) were freely created on the theme of the cabinet of curiosities, in reference to the fabulous art collection of Claude Gouffier, Grand Equerry to Henry II. The artists reinterpret an exceptional original setting: a gallery of Renaissance wall paintings in the style of the Fontainebleau school and painted and carved 17th-century panelling.
