Château de Tennessus

Deux-Sèvres, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The castle of Tennessus, or Thénessue, stands beside the D127 at the far south-east of the commune of Amailloux, in the Deux-Sèvres. Surrounded by moats, with arrow slits, hoardings, a working drawbridge and monumental fireplaces, this noble fortress offers exceptional accommodation in an unusual setting.

Its three huge guest rooms, each occupying a whole floor of the 14th-century keep, are carefully fitted out in medieval style, with exposed stone, heraldic decoration, tapestries, four-poster beds and period furniture.
