Castelnau-de-Montmiral
As its name indicates, the village is one of the "castelnaux", settlements built by lords in the dependence of their castle; it was built around 1222. Of the six gates opened in the ramparts, only three remain today; as for the castle erected in the thirteenth century, it was destroyed during the Revolution. However, the walk inside the enclosure is charming. The picturesque town hall square is lined with houses with varied façades, dressed stone, half-timbering, brick, resting on stone or wooden arcades; the town hall and the Maison Bozat date from the seventeenth century. The church, deeply remodelled, dates mostly from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. All around, the little streets are lively and the village is truly charming and welcoming.
