Cascade du Saut de la Brame
The Saut de la Brame is a protected natural site in the Haut-Limousin, in the Haute-Vienne, shared between the communes of Darnac and Thiat. It covers about twenty-five hectares of steep-sided valley, just upstream from where the Brame joins the Gartempe.
The river tumbles down a series of waterfalls, the Saut itself being the largest: the water passes through a narrow rocky channel in three successive drops of about three metres each. A shady path on the right bank follows the stream.
The river's name is said to come from the Old Occitan 'bramar', to roar, a reference to the noise of the rapids. The site is partly classified as a natural area of ecological interest and is included in the Natura 2000 network. It is reached from the Thiat road, parking at the hamlet of Le Breuil.
