Rochers de Puychaud

Haute-Vienne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

A small road from the 13th-century church of Blond, in the Haute-Vienne, leads to the foot of the Puychaud granite boulders, in the heart of this small massif crossed by many paths. Among oaks often covered in moss, the rocks rise above the road. A hundred years ago the vegetation did not 'smother' them and the view swept across the horizon; people had themselves photographed on top of a block reached by a kind of via ferrata.

One of the rocks still bears a slate plaque placed in 1930 for the centenary of the birth of Frédéric Mistral. The massif marks the boundary between the Langue d'Oc and the Langue d'Oïl, spoken in neighbouring Poitou.
