Cascade de Montval

The Montval waterfall lies in the Cantal, on the foothills of the Auvergne volcanic massif, away from the busiest tourist routes. Its special feature is water naturally rich in iron, which has stained the rock face behind the falls in reddish tones, a fairly rare phenomenon in France. This unusual mineral setting, surrounded by vegetation, gives the discreet site an almost secret character, much appreciated by walkers looking for unspoilt nature.
