La Cascade Blanche

Drôme, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Cascade Blanche is one of the two falls of the Vernaison gorges, at the entrance of the Vercors massif, in the commune of Sainte-Eulalie-en-Royans, in the Drôme. It is near Pont-en-Royans, a village of hanging houses. The vertically sculpted rock wall and the foam of the fall give it its imposing look and its name.

You get there by a path of about two kilometres that follows the river, with very little climbing. The route alternates forest sections, gorge edges and stretches by the water, and you can also go up the course of the Vernaison to reach the more discreet Cascade Verte. Some rocky passages are slippery, and it is best to avoid the walk after heavy rain or in flood, when the flow is high.

The site is very busy in the good season. Natural pools lend themselves to swimming in summer, but biodiversity is fragile there, and walkers are asked to stay on existing paths.
