Défilé du Gas

Drôme, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Défilé du Gas, also called the Gorges des Gâts, is a deep passage in the Diois, in the Drôme. The D539 runs through it between Châtillon-en-Diois and Glandage, before climbing to the Col de Grimone. The gorges were carved by the Bez, a tributary of the Drôme, between high limestone cliffs up to a hundred metres tall, over about ten kilometres.

Halfway along, the narrow Rio Sourd canyon is known to canyoning and river-hiking enthusiasts. The Défilé du Charan, with its four tunnels, leads to the hilltop village of Glandage.

Several swimming spots lie at the entrance to the gorges when arriving from Die. The place is good for picnics and for enjoying the scenery by car or on foot.
