La Cascade Verte
The Cascade Verte is a more discreet fall than its neighbour, the Cascade Blanche, in the Vernaison gorges, at the entrance of the Vercors, near Échevis and Pont-en-Royans, in the Drôme. It owes its name to the deep-green moss-covered rocks over which the water trickles.
It hides back from the Cascade Blanche and is reached by going up the course of the Vernaison. The route mixes forest paths, passages along the gorge and sections beside the water, where you may have to walk in the riverbed. The path is not marked but remains visible, with a few slippery rocky passages. The two waterfalls can be combined over about two kilometres from Sainte-Eulalie-en-Royans, with little climbing.
The most pleasant time to go is from June to early September, when the water is mild enough for the river crossings. Avoid going after heavy rain or when the flow is strong. The place is busy, and walkers are asked to stay on the paths to preserve flora and fauna.
