Cairn de Barnenez

Finistère, Bretagne

The Barnenez cairn (Karn Barnenez in Breton) is a megalithic site in the commune of Plouezoc'h (in Brittany, France). The monument consists of two parts and eleven chambers. The oldest part of this dry-stone tumulus is said to date from 4850–4450 BC, from the Neolithic. It is the oldest known continental megalithic construction. The Barnenez cairn, like a hundred other monuments owned by the State, is managed, run and opened to visits by the Centre des monuments nationaux.
