Arboretum National des Barres
A former nineteenth-century property of the Vilmorin family, the Arboretum national des Barres has been enriched over the years thanks to the discoveries of famous botanists, and now gathers one of the richest collections of trees and shrubs from the five continents. In this unique place where nearly 8,500 unusual, rare or astonishing specimens rub shoulders (sequoia of more than 46 metres, handkerchief trees, gum trees...), three discovery paths let visitors enjoy the atmospheres, scents and changing blooms through the seasons. Once reserved for plant specialists alone, the Arboretum national des Barres, which now receives more than 20,000 visitors a year, has become an essential tourist and educational site for the nature-loving walker as well as the enlightened botanist. This plant conservatory is a prime support for raising visitors' awareness of the environment.
