Arboretum de la Sédelle
The Sédelle arboretum is a private garden in the hamlet of Villejoint, at Crozant, in the north of the Creuse. It covers about ten hectares along the valley of the Sédelle, the small river that inspired many painters of the Crozant school.
Created by its owner, Philippe Wanty, its main collection is maples: some 130 Acer taxa, including about forty species and subspecies, were planted in the first years. The site also has dogwoods, limes, rhododendrons and sweetgums, arranged in landscaped gardens that form a palette of colours through the seasons.
The arboretum holds the 'Jardin Remarquable' label. It opens in season, for self-guided visits or tours led by the owner. Opening dates vary from year to year, so it is best to check the official website before going.
