Aquarium du Limousin

Haute-Vienne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine

The Limousin Aquarium occupies a former underground water reservoir with vaulted halls, built under Napoleon III, in the heart of Limoges. The route begins with the fish of the region's rivers, such as carp, pike, zander, tench and catfish, before opening onto freshwater and saltwater species from around the world, shown in recreated settings.

Visitors can see seahorses, clownfish, moray eels, Japanese carp, piranhas and electric fish, among others.

The aquarium also has a refuge, La Réserve aux écailles, fully renovated and enlarged, as well as two recently fitted-out education rooms. A shop has opened near the entrance. The visit is entirely indoors, which makes it a possible outing in any season, suited to families and school groups alike, in the centre of the Haute-Vienne.
