Yvoire
The position of Yvoire, on the only promontory of Lake Geneva, aroused the interest of the counts of Savoy, "the doorkeepers of the Alps". In the fourteenth century, Amadeus V the Great rebuilt the castle and ringed the village with ramparts. Only the keep remains. In the well-preserved ramparts, two gates let only pedestrians through. The old town offers, around the bends of narrow lanes, surprising perspectives over the lake criss-crossed with boats. Yvoire has become a fishing port and the fish of Lake Geneva are one of its specialities.
