Velo Rail
The Charente-Limousine rail-bike uses the old railway line linking Roumazières to Confolens, whose construction was voted in 1856 and whose Roumazières–Confolens section was inaugurated in 1887 before being progressively declassified from 1970. Departures are from Confolens, at the old station, or from Roumazières, with a possible route towards Manot.
The trip crosses the Charente on the Laplaud viaduct, a masonry structure with several arches, goes through chestnut woods and along the Vienne valley and high-altitude meadows. Another viaduct, that of Pontaran, marks the line between Confolens and Manot.
The activity is offered by an association that operates the old track. Opening periods and booking should be checked with the association before coming.
