Château de Villevert
The Château de Villevert, in the Charente, belonged to the Chamborant family from the 17th century until the early 20th century. Its oldest parts date from the 16th and 17th centuries. On the old land register of 1825 it appears with a slightly different plan, without the present outbuildings.
The château was extensively altered in the 19th century. The roof structure was rebuilt to create an attic storey, and the tiles were replaced by slates. The east wing was rebuilt on the old foundations. The various outbuildings were built at that time, as was the votive chapel, erected in 1880-1881 for Baroness Hélène de Chamborant and registered as a historic monument in 1988. Much of this work was carried out by the Parisian painter Alexandre Félix Périn. Only the exterior can be visited; there is an English-style park.
