Tourbières de Longéroux
The Longeyroux peat bog, in the Corrèze, is a habitat of national biological importance. It lies in the heart of the Millevaches plateau, around Meymac and three neighbouring communes, at an altitude of 900 metres. It is the catchment basin of the Vézère.
The Longeyroux is the name of the upper Vézère, winding and slow between its source and the Oussines lake; it comes from the Latin longarius, 'stretching lengthwise'. The protected area covers 255 hectares and is part of a registered natural site. With its 250 hectares it is one of the largest peat bogs in the Limousin.
