Téléphérique du Brévent

Haute-Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Brévent overlooks Chamonix, in Haute-Savoie, and faces the Mont Blanc chain. It is reached in two stages: a gondola rises from Chamonix to Planpraz, at about 2,000 metres' altitude, then the Brévent cable car leads to the summit, at 2,525 metres. The Planpraz link dates from 1928 and the Brévent one from 1930; the present cable car dates from 1987 and its cabins were renewed in 2019.

From the summit, the panorama covers 360 degrees and offers a frontal view of the Mont Blanc massif, its needles and glaciers.

The Brévent is also the starting point of many hikes, from the simplest to the most committing, and the slabs near the summit are a climbing site. Summer and winter, the ride gives access to a high-mountain ski and hiking area. Weather can cause service interruptions.
