Cascade du Dard

Haute-Savoie, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

The Dard waterfall is a fall of about 20 metres, in the commune of Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, in Haute-Savoie, at 1,233 metres' altitude, not far from the north entrance of the Mont Blanc tunnel. It is formed by the Dard, a small torrent that comes down from the Pèlerins glacier, in the Mont Blanc massif, before joining the Arve.

It is reached after a short walk. The setting is a steep-sided hollow of the Chamonix valley, where glacier meltwater rushes between rocks and mountain forest. The flow depends on the melting of ice and snow, and is therefore stronger in summer than in winter.

The waterfall is part of a set of easy walks at the foot of the massif, which offer views of the surrounding summits. Its short distance from the valley makes it an outing accessible to families staying in Chamonix.
