Plage de Cap Blanc-Nez

Pas-de-Calais, Hauts-de-France

Escalles beach stretches at the foot of Cap Blanc-Nez, in the Pas-de-Calais, on the Opal Coast. It alternates pebbles and fine sand according to the tide and is overlooked by white chalk cliffs, which peak at about 134 metres. It is reached by the Cran d'Escalles, a natural cut in the cliff, and is mostly usable at low tide.

The site is part of the Grand Site des Deux Caps, which brings together Cap Blanc-Nez and Cap Gris-Nez over 23 kilometres of coastline. At the top of Cap Blanc-Nez stands the Dover Patrol monument, a pink granite obelisk inaugurated in 1922.

Hiking paths cross the cliffs and offer wide views over the Channel; in clear weather, the English coast is visible. The village of Escalles is close.
