Phare de Calais

Pas-de-Calais, Hauts-de-France

The Calais lighthouse, in the Pas-de-Calais, overlooks the town's seafront and marks one of the busiest straits in the world. Its tall tower measures about 59 metres according to the sources consulted.

The climb comprises 271 steps; it is reserved for people able to climb the staircase. From the summit, the panorama extends over the town, the port, the Strait of Dover and, in clear weather, to the English cliffs.

At the foot of the lighthouse, an information room retraces the history and evolution of maritime signalling and presents the techniques used to guide ships. Guided tours with limited places have also been offered during events. Opening conditions change according to the period: they are to be confirmed with the Calais tourist office.
