Phare du Créac'h

Finistère, Bretagne

The Créac'h lighthouse stands on the north-western point of Ouessant, in the Finistère, facing the Iroise sea. Built in the nineteenth century to signal the island distinctly to navigators, it is among the most powerful lighthouses in the world. Its tower reaches 55 metres in height.

At the foot of the lighthouse, the old engine room of the power station that supplied it houses the Museum of Lighthouses and Beacons, run by the Armorique Regional Nature Park. It retraces the history of maritime signalling, lighting and shipwrecks, with optics, models and evocations of keepers' lives.

The museum closed in November 2023 for renovation, with a reopening announced in 2026 and an opening of the lighthouse to the public planned; these points remain to be confirmed.
