Phare de l'Ile de Batz

Finistère, Bretagne

The Île de Batz lighthouse stands at the western end of the island, opposite Roscoff, in the north Finistère. This cylindrical tower with a base, built in the 1830s, rises 44 metres above the island. Automated since 1995, it guides ships along a coast reputed dangerous.

The climb of 198 steps leads to a platform from where you discover a panorama over the island and the coast. The lighthouse is visited according to an opening period to be checked, which would cover the fine season and school holidays.

The island is reached by sea shuttle from Roscoff, in about fifteen minutes, all year round. It has beaches, a church, the ruins of the Sainte-Anne chapel and the Georges Delaselle botanical garden; the tour of the island represents about 12 km of walking.
