Parc Floral de Paris

Paris, Île-de-France

The architecture of the Parc Floral de Paris, in the Bois de Vincennes, draws very freely on the Japanese style popularised at the time of its design by the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. The soaring roofs of the restaurant and the waves of paving at the south entrance recall Kenzo Tange's Yoyogi National Gymnasium.

The way the 28 pavilions and themed horticultural patios are arranged evokes the Katsura Imperial Villa. The overhanging roofs, the half-covered paths sunk in greenery and the orthogonal timber frames of the pavilions are all nods to their model. The park also has a hall used as a centre for exhibitions and events.
