Jardin des Tuileries

Paris, Île-de-France

The Tuileries were once a district of Paris, between the Louvre palace, Rue de Rivoli, Place de la Concorde and the Seine. It owes its name to the fact that its site was previously occupied by tile factories. In the twenty-first century, the site now houses a public garden that is the largest and oldest French-style garden of the capital and which was once that of the Tuileries Palace, a former royal and imperial residence, now vanished. The Tuileries garden has been listed as a Historic Monument since 1914, within an inscribed site, and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage protection concerning the banks of the Seine.
