Parc de Courzieu
The Parc de Courzieu is an animal park at Courzieu, in the heart of the forest of the Monts du Lyonnais, about half an hour west of Lyon. It is devoted to birds of prey and wolves, and is known for its shows.
The bird-of-prey flight show takes place in an amphitheatre: eagles, falcons, kites and vultures fly freely above the audience, in a staging based on the tradition of falconry and the bond between bird and falconer. A separate session is devoted to owls.
Wolves are the park's other highlight. In the centre, a valley is home to a pack of grey wolves, surrounded by a path and a wooden bridge above it; on the neighbouring hill lives a pack of Arctic wolves, which can be seen up close through a tunnel. A feeding time commented by a keeper explains the life and organisation of the pack.
The park also has marmots. Routes follow low-mountain paths; the wolf and bird areas are however accessible to people with reduced mobility.
