A superb 19th-century building, the Château de la Bachasse, in the Rhône, is a leading seminar centre in the Lyon area.
In 1850 Antoine Giraud, a Lyon silk merchant and owner of the old Bachasse and Bottières estate, commissioned the château. The work was carried out between 1880 and 1890, with gabled pediments that give the building its particular charm.
A medieval keep, two-thirds ruined, built around 1200 for the archbishops of Lyon at the western approach to the city.
This rectangular Renaissance-inspired residence dates from the late 19th century.
At the gates of the Lyon urban area, the Lacroix-Laval estate houses a sixteenth-century château in the heart of a 115-ha natural park of greenery.
From the 19th century the château belonged to the Roux de Bézieux family; in 1972 it was bought by a developer.
The castle of Saint-Cyr-au-Mont-d'Or was built at the end of the 12th century and rebuilt around 1210; a 21-metre square keep survives.
A 19th-century folly in the Mont-d'Or, Château-Perret is flanked by three towers with spire roofs.
