Paleosite
In July 1979 at Saint-Césaire, in the Charente-Maritime, archaeological excavations uncovered the bones of a young Neanderthal woman, since nicknamed Pierrette. The discovery had a great impact, as it challenged accepted ideas about the succession of Neanderthals and modern humans in western Europe.
Today the Paléosite at Saint-Césaire is devoted to her. This prehistory interpretation centre offers a journey through time in the footsteps of Neanderthals, with modern museum displays and staging.
