Musée des Commerces d'autrefois
The Musée des Commerces d'autrefois, in Rochefort in the Charente-Maritime, brings back the small shops of the early 20th century: the bistro, the hatter, the grocer, the butcher and many other shops, with their goods and advertising. It brings together an impressive collection of everyday objects that have now disappeared.
An 'odorama' offers a sensory approach, with scent diffusers in the shops: old leather at the cobbler's, glue on the schoolchildren's desks, cloves at the dentist's, camphor at the chemist's, beeswax polish and coffee.
