Musée Saint-Remi de Reims

Marne, Grand Est

The Musée Saint-Remi is the history and archaeology museum of the city of Reims. It occupies the former Benedictine royal abbey of Saint-Remi, adjoining the basilica of the same name, an ensemble inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

The first rooms tell the history of the site and the abbey. The route then deals with Reims in Gallo-Roman times, with mosaics, funerary stelae, the tomb of Jovinus and the reconstruction of the House of the Musicians, then regional archaeology of the Middle Ages. You also see works linked to the abbey and the cathedral, such as illuminated manuscripts, sculptures and paintings, as well as the tapestry of the life of Saint Remi, woven in the sixteenth century. A last part is devoted to the military history of the city and the region, up to the Second World War.

The museum suits visitors interested in Reims's past, from prehistory to the twentieth century.
