Musée du Fort de la Pompelle

Marne, Grand Est

Fort de la Pompelle, in the commune of Puisieulx, near Reims, was built from 1880 to 1883 as part of the town's fortified belt designed on the Séré de Rivières system. Listed as a historic monument, it is presented as the only fort that stayed in Allied hands throughout the First World War, which made it possible to ensure the defence of Reims.

It now houses a Great War museum. The collections include artillery pieces, equipment, infantry uniforms, objects made by soldiers in the trenches, everyday objects, military medical equipment and period documents. The museum has in particular a remarkable set of more than three hundred models of German helmets.

The contemporary scenography, punctuated by interactive terminals, invites you to plunge into the soldiers' daily life. Temporary exhibitions complete the route.
