Musée National de la Marine

Var, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

The Musée national de la Marine in Toulon is one of the sites of the Musée national de la Marine network, which also includes Paris, Brest, Port-Louis and Rochefort. Created at the end of the First Empire and open to the public since 1814, it has been housed since 1981 next to the monumental gate of the arsenal, one of the few historic sites of the town to have survived the Second World War.

The museum tells the history of the navy and of the Toulon arsenal, a great military port of the Mediterranean. You discover notably ship models, marine paintings and sculptures, as well as objects linked to life on board and to the activity of the port town.

It suits lovers of naval history and maritime heritage, families and those curious about local history. The site is generally closed in January, after the end-of-year holidays.

Its position on the harbour, close to the old centre of Toulon, makes it a natural stop on a visit of the roadstead and its military and industrial heritage.
