Musée international des arts modestes
The Musée international des arts modestes, or MIAM, is at 23 quai Maréchal-de-Lattre-de-Tassigny, in Sète, in the Hérault. It was founded by Hervé Di Rosa and Bernard Belluc and opened in November 2000. It occupies a former wine warehouse turned into an exhibition space by the architect Patrick Bouchain.
The museum explores popular culture in dialogue with learned culture and seeks to go beyond the boundaries between genres. It highlights modest, often neglected objects that have inspired artists. It houses the collections of its two founders: toys, figurines, gadgets and curiosities of all kinds, as well as a modest garden created by Liliana Motta.
Temporary exhibitions combine modest arts, outsider art and contemporary art.
The education service, called La petite épicerie, offers workshops for children from age 4, and family workshops during school holidays. Group visits are possible. The place is for families, art lovers and those curious about popular culture.
