Musée des plans-reliefs

Paris, Île-de-France

The Relief Maps Museum holds a collection of relief models of fortified towns, mostly dating from the 17th century. It is in Les Invalides, in the 7th arrondissement of Paris.

Although 260 relief models representing 150 fortified sites were made between 1668 and 1870, the upheavals of history led to the loss or destruction of many of them. The collection was listed as a historic monument on 22 July 1927 and the museum opened in 1943. It keeps about a hundred models, 15 of which were given to the Lille fine arts museum; 28 are currently on display.
