Musée des Papillons
The Butterfly Museum in Saint-Quentin, in the Aisne, is housed in the Espace Saint-Jacques, Rue de la Sellerie. Its insect collections, partly bequeathed to the town in 1912, were later enriched by other collectors, including Monsieur Verplancke in 1942 and Canon Pierre de Larminat in 1988. After several moves, they have been displayed at the Espace Saint-Jacques since 1989.
Butterflies and beetles dominate, with many spectacular specimens from tropical regions, shown in period Deyrolle cabinets. According to the sources, the collection numbers more than a hundred and thirty thousand specimens from all over the world. The museum also keeps a 19th-century herbarium of about two thousand plants, most of them collected in the region. It will interest families, nature lovers and natural science enthusiasts.
