Musée de Picardie
Built between 1855 and 1867, the Musée de Picardie in Amiens, in the Somme, is one of the first modern museums of its kind built in France. It owes its existence to the Société des Antiquaires de Picardie, made up of notables and wealthy industrialists, whose ambition was to create a true 'palace for the arts' that would also celebrate the province of Picardy.
The society enabled the museum to build up very rich collections.
