Maison de Jules Verne
The house of Jules Verne is at 2 rue Charles-Dubois, in Amiens (Somme). The novelist lived there and wrote part of his work, and the townhouse can now be visited as a museum.
On the ground floor, you discover the winter garden, the drawing rooms and the dining room with its neo-Gothic furniture. On the first floor, where the Verne family's bedrooms were, the Paris bookshop, the drawing room and the office of his publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel are reconstructed. The second floor evokes the author's maritime world, then gives access to his workspace: library, writing study, armchair, globe and objects of inspiration. It is there that he is said to have written notably Two Years' Vacation and The Aerial Village. Some elements of the study are presented as a reconstruction.
The visit, self-guided or guided, lasts about an hour and suits readers of Jules Verne as well as families and those curious about nineteenth-century literary life.
