Musée de l'Hospice Comtesse
In the heart of Old Lille, in the Nord, the museum occupies the hospital founded in 1237 by Countess Joan of Flanders, which remained in use until 1939. The present buildings date from the 15th, 17th and 18th centuries. They comprise a sick ward with a panelled barrel vault, a chapel decorated with the arms of the hospital's main benefactors, and the buildings of the Augustinian sisters around two courtyards and a medicinal garden.
Since 1962 they have provided the setting for paintings, tapestries, carved wood, furniture and faience from the region, evoking the interior of a 17th-century Flemish religious house.
