Lille Métropole Musée d'art moderne, d'art contemporain et d'art brut
The Lille Métropole Museum of Modern, Contemporary and Outsider Art (LaM), at Villeneuve-d'Ascq in the Nord, is the only museum in France and northern Europe to present the main strands of 20th- and 21st-century art at the same time.
Its two fine buildings, surrounded by a sculpture park (Alexander Calder, Pablo Picasso, Eugène Dodeigne and others), house three major collections: more than 4,500 works in 4,000 m² of exhibition space, as well as the Dominique Bozo library, an auditorium, a café-restaurant, a bookshop and educational workshops. Its internationally renowned modern art collection was donated in 1979 to the Lille urban community by the Masurel family, northern industrialists.
