Musée d'Art Contemporain - MAC
Housed in a building constructed in the 1970s and given to the city of Marseille by Doctor Rau, the MAC opened its doors on Saturday 28 May 1994. With 2,500 m² of exhibition space, it offers visitors the chance to revisit works created from the 1960s to the present day. The generous endowment from deposits of the Fonds National d'Art Contemporain, the Frac Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations, but also from collectors and private galleries (such as the forty or so major works of the Reinhard Onnasch Collection, Berlin, which came at the end of 1997 to delight the public) each year embellishes the museum's imposing halls.
