Cosquer Méditerranée

Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

Cosquer Méditerranée is a museum in Marseille that presents a full-scale replica of the Cosquer cave, a decorated prehistoric cave whose entrance is now submerged, in the calanques. Discovered in 1985 by the diver Henri Cosquer, it contains paintings and engravings more than 20,000 years old: horses, bison, negative hands, but also penguins (great auks) and seals.

The route begins with a presentation of the site, then a trip in small cabins that evoke diving, before entering the replica of the cave. The whole takes place in the Villa Méditerranée, facing the sea. A permanent exhibition completes the visit, which lasts about two hours and remains an excellent discovery of Prehistory with the family.
