Museum d'Histoire Naturelle de Marseille

Bouches-du-Rhône, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur

Created in 1819, the museum moved into the right wing of the Palais Longchamp in 1869. It brings together elements of fauna and flora, living or fossilised. The museum cultivates its Mediterranean specificity with, notably, a room devoted to Provence. Another room is devoted to world zoology. It presents mounted specimens, some of them very rare, such as the New Zealand giant lizard. Also to see, the regional prehistory room, as well as the aquarium. By appointment, the museum gives access to the scientific library, made up of books and journals in the field of natural history.
