Montsoreau

Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire

Very near a royal abbey, Montsoreau is built around its fifteenth-century castle, between Loire and hillside. The village keeps a rich heritage marked by the Loire boatmen and its Lady, Françoise de Maridor, whose tumultuous and fatal love affair with Bussy d'Amboise Alexandre Dumas told. To discover Montsoreau is to take paths lined with flowers climbing towards the vines, admire white tuffeau houses and carefully kept gardens, stroll in courtyards and lanes with the Loire stretching as far as the eye can see, and taste at the end of the visit a few renowned Champigny and Saumur wines.
