Château-Musée de Montsoreau

Maine-et-Loire, Pays de la Loire

The château de Montsoreau is the only Loire château built with its "feet" in the water. It overlooks the confluence of the Vienne and the Loire. Montsoreau lies halfway between Saumur and Chinon. Property of the Maine-et-Loire departmental council since the early twentieth century, this historic monument reopened to the public in July 2001 after two years of renovation.

Created in April 2016 on the initiative of the French contemporary art collector Philippe Méaille, the Château de Montsoreau–Museum of Contemporary Art is a radical, committed and lively place, two hours from Paris, in the Loire Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Set in a Loire château, it has an architecture, a collection and exhibition spaces out of the ordinary that place it among the international institutions devoted to current art. Its permanent collection is the world's largest holding of works of the Art & Language movement.
